‘Heart of Stone’ Review: Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan Star in Netflix’s Spy Thriller, Embracing Bond-Style Action Overload

Netflix is going all-in on big, star-driven action franchises, and their latest offering, “Heart of Stone,” is no exception. This convoluted spy thriller is packed with James Bond-style action set pieces and features the incredible Gal Gadot at the center of it all.

From the very beginning, you’ll feel like you’re in Jane Bond territory, with a thrilling 20-minute pre-credits action sequence set in the luxurious Italian Alps. It’s a scene straight out of a 007 film, complete with a high-stakes chase down icy mountains. You’ll half-expect Billie Eilish to show up with a theme song at any moment.

But the heart of the story lies in the complex web of secrets and alliances. Gadot’s character, Rachel Stone, is working with lead agent Parker (played by Jamie Dornan) and their team to stop an ambitious hacker named Keya Dhawan. However, Stone has her own secrets, and it’s revealed that she’s a key operative for The Charter, a peace-driven organization that operates outside the scope of MI6. With advanced technology and a no-nonsense boss, Stone and her team are determined to protect an AI device known as The Heart, which has the power to destroy the world.

Director Tom Harper takes audiences on a global thrill ride, from Italy to Portugal to the UK to Iceland to the Sahara Desert. The production value is top-notch, and the cast, including standout performances from Alia Bhatt and Matthias Schweighöfer, brings their A-game. Gadot’s presence adds a level of humanity to the film, elevating it beyond a typical action flick.

While “Heart of Stone” would have been well-suited for a significant box office run, its streaming release means that some of the meticulously crafted stunts and action sequences may not have the same impact. However, Gadot’s star power is sure to draw in viewers.

Overall, “Heart of Stone” is a thrilling and visually stunning film that delivers late-summer fun. It’s a must-watch for fans of action-packed spy thrillers.
