Actors’ Equity Association is fired up and ready to endorse President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential campaign! According to Kate Shindle, the president of Actors’ Equity Association, Biden and Harris have been listening to the union’s concerns and have been supportive of issues like Covid relief and federal arts funding. But there’s still so much more work to be done, and a second term for the pro-worker administration is crucial to safeguarding our democracy, addressing systemic racism, and protecting gender identity and bodily autonomy.
Equity previously endorsed Biden and Harris in 2020, citing their strong history of supporting workers’ rights, LGBTQ rights, and the fight for gun violence prevention. During Biden’s term, funding for the National Endowment for the Arts has increased by $52 million, and the Biden Administration has provided Covid assistance for arts workers, including support for the Performing Artist Tax Parity Act.
Al Vincent, Jr., the executive director of Actors’ Equity Association, believes that only with President Biden taking a second term do we have a real chance of passing the PRO Act, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, and the restoration of the Voting Rights Act. Everything is on the line this election, and Equity is working hard to build more political power for union members by forming a political action committee, expanding the union’s use of political endorsements, and sending union members to turn out union voters in battleground states.
Join Actors’ Equity Association in endorsing President Biden and Vice President Harris for a second term, and let’s work together to put labor laws back on the side of workers and safeguard our democracy and our climate!
