Anita Baker is taking on The Songstress Tour solo after announcing that Babyface will no longer be joining her as a guest on her upcoming shows. The decision came after Baker revealed that she had been the victim of cyberbullying from Babyface’s fans. In a tweet, she explained, “After silently enduring cyberbullying, verbal abuse, and threats of violence from the fan base of our special guest/support act, in the interest of personal safety, I will continue The Songstress Tour alone. Appropriate refunds will be made. Blessings.”
Babyface expressed his sadness about the situation in his own statement, saying, “It’s unfortunate and disheartening to see how things have played out via social media. While I was looking forward to the rest of the dates, I have nothing but love and respect for Anita, and I wish her the best for the remainder of her tour.”
The drama began on May 10 when Babyface announced on Twitter that he would not be performing with Baker, despite being confirmed to appear. His fans were not happy with the last-minute change and started attacking Baker online. She responded by tweeting, “Kenny’s crazies are online bullies. @Babyface please call off your fans. I have been only kind and supportive of you as the special guest/support on my tour.”
Baker later clarified that Babyface was only a supporting act and that the false narrative of a co-headliner was creating unrealistic expectations and aggression from his fans towards her. Despite the drama, Baker is ready to continue her tour and give her fans an unforgettable experience. Check out her upcoming concert tour dates below.
