Exciting news in the music industry! Bruce Solar, the Head of Music at APA, is one of the few music agents leaving the agency. But don’t worry, a replacement for Solar will be announced shortly. APA has been expanding rapidly, adding 21 agents in the past year alone, including some from ICM, CAA, and UTA who brought over 200 artists with them. In February, the department even promoted six agents. However, with the writers strike nearing its 50th day, APA has had to make some tough decisions, including laying off several assistants and not renewing contracts for some agents whose deals were expiring in 2023. But APA is grateful for all that these agents have contributed and wishes them the best going forward.
It’s not just APA that’s been going through changes. Verve, another agency, has also had to lay off most of its assistants and three agents. Both APA and Verve have even implemented temporary salary reductions for top agents and executives.
As for Solar, he joined APA in 2015 as EVP Worldwide Music and was promoted to partner and Co-Head of Worldwide Music in 2018. He became the solo Head of Music in 2021 and has represented some amazing clients, including Radical Face, EELS, Family of the Year, Blondie, Brian Wilson, Smokey Robinson, The Zombies, Cake, The O’Jays, and Liz Brasher. Stay tuned for more updates on the music industry!
