Former Amazon Executive Jeff Blackburn Joins Roku Board of Directors

Jeff Blackburn, the mastermind behind Amazon’s video expansion, has joined Roku’s board of directors! This move represents an exciting expansion for Roku, as signaled by the company last April. Roku founder and CEO Anthony Wood is thrilled to have Blackburn on board, stating that his extensive experience in digital media and technologies makes him a valuable addition to the team. Blackburn himself is excited to join the board at such a pivotal time in the industry, as more entertainment continues to move to TV streaming.

Before joining Roku, Blackburn served as Amazon’s SVP of Global Media & Entertainment, overseeing Prime Video, Amazon Studios, MGM, Music, Audible, Games, and Twitch. He also worked as SVP of Worldwide Business Development, Advertising, and Entertainment from 2012 to 2020. Prior to his time at Amazon, Blackburn worked in investment banking at Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank.

While Roku has faced some challenges during the pandemic, including a slowdown in advertising and supply chain issues, the company has still managed to see impressive gains in its stock. Shares have surged more than 70% in 2023 to date, far surpassing gains in the benchmark S&P 500. And with Amazon reportedly considering an ad-supported tier of Prime Video, the streaming ad business is only set to grow even more. Exciting times ahead for Roku and its new board member, Jeff Blackburn!
