The IRS has some sage advice for Californians: keep calm and carry on. But that’s easier said than done when you receive a demand to pay your taxes in just three weeks. Thousands of taxpayers were left in a panic, despite being granted an automatic extension to file and pay by October 16th due to severe winter storms, flooding, and mudslides. The extension was granted to those in 51 counties, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, and Ventura. The IRS sent out a digital notice this week, advising recipients to ignore the previous notice. So, don’t worry, California taxpayers – you still have an automatic extension until later this year to file and pay your taxes if you’re covered by disaster declarations in the state.
