Alan Arkin, 89, Renowned Actor of ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ and ‘Argo’, Passes Away

Alan Arkin, the Oscar-winning actor known for his roles in films like “Little Miss Sunshine” and “Argo,” passed away at the age of 89. His sons, Adam, Matthew, and Anthony, announced the news in a joint statement. Arkin was a talented force of nature, both as an artist and as a man. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he will be deeply missed.

In addition to his film work, Arkin had a successful career on Broadway. He won a Tony Award for his performance in “Enter Laughing” and was nominated for his directing in “The Sunshine Boys.” He also received six Emmy nominations, including for his role in the Netflix comedy “The Kominsky Method.”

Arkin was born in Brooklyn in 1934 to Jewish immigrant parents. He made his first big screen appearance in the film “Calypso Heat Wave” and his Broadway debut in “From the Second City.” He earned his first Academy Award nomination for his role in “The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming” and finally won an Oscar for his performance in “Little Miss Sunshine.”

Throughout his career, Arkin appeared in over 100 films, including “Catch-22,” “Edward Scissorhands,” and “Wait Until Dark.” He was a versatile actor who left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.

Arkin is survived by his three sons and his wife Suzanne Newlander Arkin, whom he married in 1999. His legacy as a talented and beloved actor will live on.
