James Caan’s Final Film Lawsuit Headed to Trial as ‘Fast Charlie’ Producers’ Motion to Dismiss Denied by Judge

In a legal battle over credits for James Caan’s final film, Fast Charlie, screenwriter Lee Goldberg is taking two production companies to court. The crime drama, directed by Phillip Noyce and based on Victor Gischler’s novel Gun Monkeys, follows Charlie Swift (Pierce Brosnan) as he seeks revenge after a rival boss eliminates his aging mob boss employer and team. Goldberg claims he entered a contract with Boomtown Media Partners LLC to acquire the rights to Gun Monkeys, but believes the company assigned its rights to Fast Charlie Nola LLC, which began shooting the film in April 2022 without paying Goldberg or giving him the opportunity to revise the script. The film has wrapped but has not yet been released. Goldberg and his company are seeking a preliminary injunction to stop distribution until their rights to writing and co-producer credits are determined, as well as compensatory damages. The case is ongoing, and we’ll keep you updated on any developments.
