Elon Musk, the busy entrepreneur, was hard at work this weekend, responding to requests from his Twitter followers. The popular social media platform recently introduced an exciting ad revenue-sharing program that rewards creators. However, not all creators had the chance to benefit from this program, and this issue was brought to Musk’s attention.
One Twitter user, who had a dedicated account for their adorable beagle, was deemed ineligible to monetize their content. According to Twitter’s Help Center page, profiles featuring animals or fictional characters are ineligible for the program, unless they are directly affiliated with a brand or organization. Parody and fan accounts are also not eligible.
But after another user asked Musk to “fix” this unfair policy, he swiftly responded, “Consider this silly policy deleted as of now.” Musk understood the frustration and took action to rectify the situation.
The ad revenue-sharing program is designed to reward content creators who actively engage with their audience. Twitter grants them a share of the ad revenue generated. However, one user expressed their concern to Musk about the rate limit, which prevented them from interacting with their followers once they reached the threshold.
Musk assured the user that the rate limit would be increased, stating, “We will increase the rate limit for verified users by 50%. Should take effect within a few hours.” He wanted to ensure that creators could freely engage with their followers without any limitations.
In another tweet, Musk clarified that only verified users would be counted for ad revenue sharing. This measure aimed to prevent bot accounts from manipulating the system. Musk added, “Soon, we will share ad revenue from profile page views, which should roughly double payouts. Note, only views from verified users count, as it is otherwise trivial to bot scam the view count.”
This ad revenue-sharing program is Twitter’s response to the competition it faces from Meta, particularly with the launch of Threads. Threads recently gained over 100 million users in less than a week and is closely tied to Instagram. Users from Instagram can use the same username on Threads and notify their followers about their presence on the micro-blogging platform.
Unlike Threads, Twitter currently does serve advertisements, giving it an advantage. Content creators on Musk’s platform are incentivized to stay on Twitter to increase engagement and earn higher payouts.
Overall, Musk’s involvement and commitment to addressing user concerns demonstrate his dedication to improving the platform and ensuring a fair and rewarding experience for content creators.
