Get ready for some Twitter drama! Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, has jumped into the fray surrounding Elon Musk’s controversial “view limits” on tweets. Dorsey acknowledges the challenges of running Twitter and trusts that the team is doing their best under immense pressure. While he admits to critiquing decisions from afar, he ultimately wants to see Twitter thrive. In fact, he suggests that Twitter should consider embracing censorship-resistant open protocols like bitcoin and nostr to preserve the open internet.
Twitter users were in for a surprise when Elon Musk implemented limits on the number of tweets they could read each day. Musk claimed these limits were necessary to combat data scraping and system manipulation. Verified users who pay a monthly subscription fee could read up to 6000 posts a day, while unverified users were limited to 600 posts and new unverified users to 300 posts. However, Musk later revised these limits to 10k for verified users, 1k for unverified users, and 500 for new users.
Musk couldn’t resist poking fun at users who hit their “view limit,” tweeting, “Oh the irony of hitting view limits due to complaining about view limits.” As a result of Musk’s actions, Jack Dorsey started trending on Twitter. Dorsey, who is involved with Bluesky Social, a new social networking service aiming to rival Twitter, became a hot topic of discussion. Bluesky is currently in beta and requires an invite code for sign-ups. Frustrated with Musk’s decisions, many users began exploring alternative platforms, including Bluesky.
