SAG-AFTRA Urges Studios to Resume Bargaining as WGA Gears Up for AMPTP Meeting on Friday

Exciting news! The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and the WGA are finally heading back for talks this Friday. However, it seems that the producers are still silent when it comes to actors. Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, SAG-AFTRA’s National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator, reveals that they haven’t heard from the AMPTP since July 12. Meanwhile, the AMPTP and WGA are meeting for the first time since the strike was called on May 2.

But don’t worry, SAG-AFTRA is ready and eager to return to the negotiating table. Crabtree-Ireland emphasizes that the only way to end the strike is through dialogue, urging both parties to come back to the table and get the industry back to work as soon as possible.

In a recent interview on the TODAY show, SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher expressed the guild’s determination to fight for a fair agreement: “We have financially prepared ourselves for the next six months. And we’re really in it to win it.”

The WGA also sent a note to its members, stating that the AMPTP has requested a meeting to discuss negotiations. They assure members that they will share any important news directly with them, cautioning against rumors.

Drescher also testified at a public committee hearing, advocating for actors and writers in the streaming-era film and television industry. Both the Los Angeles and New York City Councils have passed resolutions in support of the WGA, demonstrating union solidarity.

As for breakout committees with the AMPTP, Crabtree-Ireland clarifies that it’s not a typical feature of their negotiations. They focus on the main issues at hand.

The WGA Strike is now in its 93rd day, while SAG-AFTRA is on day 20 of picketing. Stay tuned for more updates!
