Sarah Silverman Softens Stance on SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreements Following Leadership Meeting, Vows to Continue Defiance Against AMPTP

Sarah Silverman has had a change of heart about the interim agreements being handed out by SAG-AFTRA during the strike. Just two days after expressing her frustration on social media, the comedian revealed that she had a conversation with SAG leadership, including fearless Fran Drescher and Duncan Crabtree-Ireland. They explained to her the reasoning behind the approved projects, and while Silverman still has some reservations, she hopes she has presented the different perspectives clearly and fairly.

Silverman acknowledges that it’s a positive thing that crews are able to work on these projects while SAG-AFTRA and the WGA continue their strike. However, she still has concerns about the waivers given to projects with big stars and distributors like Paramount Global. She believes there is a “real stink of loophole” surrounding these waivers.

Despite her reservations, Silverman recognizes the importance of picketing as a way to bring attention to the cause. She emphasizes that the purpose of picketing is to raise awareness and gather support for the strike. She concludes by saying that she has done her best to understand the situation and present it as clearly as possible.

In response to Silverman’s initial post, SAG-AFTRA’s Crabtree-Ireland stated that they have met with her and other actors to provide more information and resources about the interim agreements. He assures that the members of SAG-AFTRA remain united in their fight for fair contracts.

Viola Davis also made headlines by announcing that she would be walking away from a film that had received an interim agreement. She believes it would not be appropriate for the production to move forward during the strike.

Other notable projects that have received interim agreements include Apple TV+’s series “Tehran,” New Line’s “The Watchers,” Glenn Close’s “The Summer Book,” and A24 titles “Mother Mary” and “Death of a Unicorn.” Even Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman’s Civil War spy drama series, “The Gray House,” has been given an interim agreement.

In the comments section of Silverman’s Instagram post, a high-profile member of the WGA and DGA expressed his own reservations about the interim agreements and the underlying thinking behind them.

The strike, which began on July 13, has brought Hollywood to a halt. Despite calls for a quick resolution, there have been no official talks between the parties involved, and the strike continues.
