Super Bowl Slimed: Nickelodeon, CBS Sports, and NFL Extend Alternate Telecast

The NFL is taking its alternate broadcasts to a whole new level with Nickelodeon and CBS Sports teaming up for the Super Bowl. This year’s championship game, set to take place on February 11 in Las Vegas, will be a slime-filled extravaganza exclusively on Nickelodeon, catering to kids audiences. But that’s not all – leading up to Super Bowl LVIII, Nickelodeon has plans for another alternate telecast on Christmas Day in Las Vegas. CBS Sports will be presenting the main game on the CBS Television Network, as well as streaming it on Paramount+ and NFL+ for mobile viewers.

The league’s partnership with Nickelodeon aims to expand viewership and keep younger audiences engaged. This Super Bowl plan builds on Nickelodeon’s successful Emmy Award-winning telecast of the 2021 NFL Wild Card Game. Paramount CEO Bob Bakish expressed his excitement about the historic Super Bowl in Las Vegas and the opportunity to bring the game to the whole family through the alternate telecast. Hans Schroeder, NFL Executive Vice President of Media Distribution, also shared his enthusiasm for the partnership and the chance to provide fans with a new and different way to experience the Super Bowl.

Brian Robbins, President and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, highlighted the unique visual sensibility and creativity that Nickelodeon brings to the Super Bowl. He emphasized the must-see event that combines the excitement of NFL action with Nickelodeon’s cool point of view.

In addition to the Super Bowl, CBS Sports and Nickelodeon will collaborate on the Nickelodeon NFL Nickmas Game, a slime-filled Christmas Day game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs. This collaboration between CBS Sports and Nickelodeon has already earned two Sports Emmy Awards for Outstanding Playoff Coverage and Outstanding Live Graphic Design during the NFL’s Super Wild Card Weekend.

The Nickelodeon Super Bowl telecast and Nickelodeon NFL Nickmas Game are produced by CBS Sports in association with Nickelodeon Productions. The international distribution of the Nickelodeon Super Bowl telecast in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand will be announced soon. Stay tuned for more details on the programming, production, and announcers for the Nickelodeon Super Bowl telecast.
