Today, the Houston Police Department released a report on the tragic Astroworld concert crush of 2021, which claimed the lives of 10 individuals and left hundreds injured. The report reveals that at least one security personnel attempted to halt the show before the devastating outcome.
During a police interview, Marty Wallgren, a security guard, disclosed that he informed members of Travis Scott’s team that the concert needed to end while guest performer Drake was on stage. Wallgren emphasized the seriousness of the crowd situation, stating that the show “had to end at 10 no matter what.”
Drake informed the police that he did not receive the message to conclude the concert, citing difficulties in seeing the crowd due to the lighting. Scott echoed this complaint, as he followed Drake in the program.
The report also includes an interview with Scott, who revealed that while performing, he received a message through his earpiece saying, “Yo Trav, you got to wrap it up. It’s getting kinda hectic out there.” However, he was not informed about the severity of the situation until later.
Certain portions of the report were redacted by the police due to privacy concerns and legal considerations. Nevertheless, it contains numerous interviews with survivors of the concert crush, with many recounting feelings of helplessness during Scott’s performance and recalling accidentally stepping on others.
In November 2021, a Texas grand jury decided not to indict Scott in connection with the incident, bringing great relief to his lawyer. The lawyer emphasized that Scott never encouraged actions that resulted in harm to others. However, multiple civil lawsuits have been filed against Scott, as well as show producer Live Nation and others involved in the event.
