Get ready for some exciting news! Arlene Nelson, the talented director behind hit unscripted series like Angel City and Secrets of Playboy, has just signed with UTA for representation in all areas. And we couldn’t be more thrilled for her!
In a recent interview with FilmmakerFocus, Nelson shared her excitement about working with UTA, saying, “UTA’s track record of representing talented directors and its commitment to bringing distinctive and wide-ranging voices to the forefront of the industry, makes it the ideal partner to represent me.”
Nelson’s most recent project, Angel City, is an HBO Original Series that follows the inaugural season of Angel City Football Club, a National Women’s Soccer League team founded by Natalie Portman and a female-led ownership group that includes Eva Longoria, Jennifer Garner, Mia Hamm, Becky G, and Serena Williams. The show is a powerful testament to the Time’s Up movement and the importance of women’s voices in sports and beyond.
But that’s not all! Nelson has also directed an episode of Apple TV+’s docuseries Gutsy with Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, as well as A&E’s Secrets of Playboy, which won the Critics’ Choice Real TV Award for Best Crime/Justice Show. And let’s not forget her Emmy-nominated work as a cinematographer on PBS’ American Masters, or her series-directing and lead DP work on Ava DuVernay’s Home Sweet Home.
With such an impressive resume, it’s no wonder Nelson has worked with notable directors like Christopher Guest, DuVernay, Agnès Varda, and Morgan Neville. We can’t wait to see what she’ll do next with UTA by her side!
