Get ready for Liam Neeson’s return to the big screen in the action-packed sequel, Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky! In an exclusive deal, Amazon Prime Video is set to pre-buy international rights (excluding Germany) for a whopping $17M. While the deal isn’t finalized yet, sources say it’s heading that way. The film will see Neeson take on the treacherous mountains of Nepal, swapping out the harsh climbs of Northern Canada from the first film.
In the sequel, Neeson returns as ‘big-rig’ ice road driver Mike McCann, who travels to Nepal to scatter his late brother’s ashes on Mt. Everest. But when he and his mountain guide encounter a group of Nepalese mercenaries on the infamous Road to the Sky, they must fight to save themselves, innocent travelers, and the local villagers’ homeland.
Production is set to start in the first quarter of 2024, with writer-director Jonathan Hensleigh (known for Die Hard with a Vengeance, Armageddon, and Jumanji) back in the saddle. Code Entertainment, ShivHans Pictures, and Envision Media Arts are producing the film, with Code Entertainment and ShivHans Pictures fully financing the sequel.
Excitingly, the original movie sold to Netflix in a record $18M EFM domestic deal and was also sold to a host of international distributors. Yesterday, we brought you news of the biggest deal to have gone down in Cannes on a festival title: Netflix’s $11M play for Todd Haynes’ May December.
Stay tuned for more updates on Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky, and get ready for Liam Neeson to bring his A-game once again!
