Michael McDonald to Head Comedy and Drama Development for Amazon Studios’ Wholly Owned Series

Get ready for some exciting news! Michael McDonald, the veteran TV executive and producer behind hit shows like American Crime, is reportedly joining Amazon Studios as Head of the Comedy and Drama Development team. He’ll be overseeing the development of all wholly owned comedy and drama series in the US SVOD TV Development and Series – Wholly Owned division, led by Nick Pepper. This is a huge move for McDonald, who previously consulted for HBO Max and was Head of Scripted Television at John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co.

Before that, McDonald spent nine years at ABC Studios, where he played a key role in the development of hit shows like Nashville, Revenge, and Scandal. He even helped develop ABC Studios’ Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, Reaper, and Commander in Chief. After leaving his Head of Drama post in 2013, McDonald launched his own company, Stearns Castle, and executive produced John Ridley’s American Crime and Guerilla, as well as Monarca.

It’s clear that McDonald has an impressive track record, and we can’t wait to see what he’ll bring to Amazon Studios. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development!
