Get ready for a global show of support! Film and television writers from all over the world are joining forces to rally behind the Writers Guild strike, which has been going strong for 39 days. The “Screenwriters Everywhere” movement is gaining momentum with solidarity events planned in countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and even war-torn Ukraine. The WGA’s negotiating committee has sent a message to members, saying, “Our sister guilds understand that solidarity with U.S. writers is important for raising standards globally. Their fight is our fight, and ours is theirs.”
But it’s not just writers who are showing their support. Guilds and unions from the International Affiliation of Writers Guilds, the Federation of Screenwriters in Europe, and the UNI Global Union are also organizing pickets and other actions to support the WGA strike. Check out the list of scheduled events to see how you can get involved.
In Los Angeles and New York, WGA members are taking the message of international writer solidarity to two of the largest global employers: Netflix and Disney. Join the picket lines on June 14 with your globally inspired signs (bonus points if it’s in a language other than English). And remember, when we say “Screenwriters Everywhere,” we mean all writers, including TV writers. Let’s show the world that we stand together!
