Exciting news for theater fans! The upcoming Broadway production of the David Byrne-Fatboy Slim musical Here Lies Love has finally resolved a labor dispute over the use of pre-recorded music tracks. The result? Twelve talented musicians will now be included in the show! Tino Gagliardi, president and executive director of Local 802 NYC Musicians Union, expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, saying, “Broadway is a very special place with the best musicians and performances in the world, and we are glad this agreement honors that tradition.”
The musical’s producers also released a statement, expressing their excitement for the show’s opening on June 17th at the Broadway Theatre. They confirmed that the show’s integrity and musical concept will remain the same, with three actor-musicians and a musical director in every production. Developed and directed by Alex Timbers, Here Lies Love features music by Byrne and Fatboy Slim, with additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo.
The immersive production will transport a segment of the audience into a reconstructed section of the Broadway Theatre, creating a dance club environment. The story of former Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos will be told within this unique context, making it a truly revolutionary musical experience. Here Lies Love also boasts the first all-Filipino cast to perform on Broadway, including Arielle Jacobs as “Imelda Marcos,” Jose Llana as “Ferdinand Marcos,” and Conrad Ricamora as “Ninoy Aquino.”
Don’t miss your chance to witness this groundbreaking musical! Previews begin on June 17th, with opening night set for Thursday, July 20th.
