Unionized Strippers Take Pole Position at Warner Bros and Broadway Day in Times Square: Dispatches from the Picket Lines on Day 45

Thursday’s picket line at Warner Bros in Burbank was anything but ordinary. Newly unionized strippers from North Hollywood showed up to support striking WGA writers, and they brought a pole along for the ride. Check out some images and video from the unforgettable “Strippers Day” below.

The exotic dancers from Star Garden Topless Dive Bar fought for 15 months to join Actors’ Equity and officially succeeded in May. Their representative, Reagan, was on-site at WB and expressed her excitement, saying, “We put everything we have into this campaign.” Reagan was joined by colleagues, including Charm, who spoke about the overwhelming support they received from other unions during their own picket line.

Reagan, Charm, May, Halo, and Sinder are part of only the second strippers union in the U.S. and the first to organize this century. They came out to the line to show solidarity and lift morale. Even Lilith, a dual-union member who doubles as a WGA strike captain, joined in on the fun.

The police kept their distance but did ask for the pole to be taken down at one point. However, not before several people took a turn using it. And while there were more members of the media at this event than most others since Day 1, there wasn’t a lot of free food to be found.

To paraphrase Prince and Sinead O’Connor, nothing compares to unionized strippers doing their thing in support of a fair deal. May certainly brought the heat with her moves.

Meanwhile, on the other coast, representatives from the Broadway community joined the WGA East on the picket lines for a Broadway Day Rally. Attendees and speakers included Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sara Bareilles, and Robert Schenkkan, among others. The event was emceed by Paula Pell and featured performances from Craig Bierko and Jordan Cooper, among others. Check out some scenes from Broadway below.
