Cable News Ratings Surge with Emphasis on Titanic-Exploring Sub Coverage; Fox News Dominates Primetime and Total Day

The search for the Titanic submersible has been the talk of the town this week, with cable news networks providing extensive coverage of the tragic news that all five on board most likely perished in a “catastrophic implosion.” Despite criticism for the lack of coverage of other recent tragic events, viewership for all three cable news networks has increased compared to last month. Fox News has been leading the pack, with 1.43 million viewers throughout the day on Thursday, compared to 996,000 for MSNBC and 706,000 for CNN. In primetime, Fox News averaged 1.88 million viewers, compared to 1.52 million for MSNBC and 859,000 for CNN. The fate of the submersible and its passengers has been the main focus, but the safety of the vessel and the ongoing investigation into the cause of the implosion are still being discussed. Stay tuned for more updates.
