Bill Maher recently had Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on his podcast, Club Random, to discuss the controversial topic of vaccines. Maher, known for his unfiltered opinions on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, posted a clip on Twitter asking if Kennedy’s stance on vaccines is unreasonable. Take a look and judge for yourself.
In the clip, Maher and Kennedy discuss a book Kennedy wrote summarizing over 450 studies on vaccines. When Maher asks about the question for Kennedy’s campaign, Kennedy interrupts and says he’s not talking about it for his campaign, just between them. Maher argues that Kennedy will have to talk about it, to which Kennedy responds that he will if someone asks him.
Maher raises his voice and says that everyone will ask Kennedy about vaccines, and they continue to debate the science behind them. Kennedy argues that vaccines should be tested like other medicines, with placebo-controlled trials and long-term monitoring. Maher agrees that this is not an unreasonable request.
However, Kennedy has been making arguments against vaccines for years, even before COVID-19. In 2015, he made controversial comments about childhood vaccines causing brain damage. Kennedy’s family members have publicly denounced his views on vaccines, and vaccine scientist Dr. Peter Hotez has challenged Kennedy’s assertions.
It’s important to note that vaccines do get tested, as seen in the polio vaccine field trials of 1954. Hotez and others have criticized Kennedy for constantly changing his arguments against vaccines. While the debate on vaccines continues, it’s crucial to rely on scientific evidence and expert opinions.
