Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is not your average anthology series. It’s a thrilling collection of eight stories handpicked by the legendary Academy Award-winning director himself. Prepare to be captivated by a world filled with alien creatures, witches, and rats. Each episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities pushes its human protagonists to their limits, often with fatal consequences. This Netflix series made its debut in October 2022 and has received rave reviews from both critics and fans.

The secret to the series’ success lies in the incredible visual effects brought to life by Herne Hill Media. This VFX studio played a crucial role in creating the terrifying monsters that inhabit Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. What’s even more impressive is that this was Herne Hill’s first project as a company. They were tasked with delivering eight effects-heavy movies on a TV schedule, and they nailed it. Leading the charge were Ben King, head of CG, Jordan Nieuwland, VFX art director, and Mark Hammond, visual effects supervisor.

Jordan Nieuwland, Ben King, and Mark Hammond recently sat down with FilmmakerFocus to discuss their experience working on Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. Get ready to dive into the minds behind the eerie magic of this Netflix anthology series.
