La’an and Kirk fall for each other but James is tragically cut down by a Romulan time traveler named Sera (Adelaide Kane). La’an then learns the Romulans’ target is her ancestor, Khan Noonien-Singh (Desmond Sivan), and La’an confronts the very person she spent her entire life dreading she would turn into.
