His longtime friend and bandmate, John Reis, confirmed his death on Instagram, stating that Rick had passed away from natural causes. Reis expressed his deep admiration for Rick’s art, saying that it made life better. He also emphasized Rick’s love for his friends, and how he will be remembered for his creativity, vision, and ability to bring beauty into the world. Reis ended his heartfelt message by saying that he will miss Rick for the rest of his life.
Drive Like Jehu, the band Rick was a part of, signed to Interscope Records in the early 1990s and became a prominent figure in the indie rock scene. Throughout his career, Rick was involved in various bands such as Pitchfork, Hot Snakes, and Obits. In addition to his musical talents, Rick was also an accomplished illustrator, designing album covers for his own bands as well as for Rocket from the Crypt, Sparta, and others.
