The Writers Guild of America East has made the decision to cancel all picket lines for today due to the scorching heat. However, temperatures today are slightly cooler than they were on Thursday when writers and their supporters gathered outside Silvercup Studios in Queens for a “Horror/Fantasy Theme Day” protest against the ongoing production of “American Horror Story.” Despite the heat, the Writers Guild continued their protest on Thursday, even as global climatologists reported another high-temperature record. Today’s weather in New York City is a bit of a relief, but as the writers strike continues into what could be the hottest summer ever, climate change is starting to impact outdoor picket lines. In June, the WGA East had to cancel demonstrations due to smoke from Canadian wildfires. Despite the challenges, the Writers Guild still has a full schedule of themed events and picketing planned for July, as forecasters predict a hotter-than-normal summer for New Yorkers.
