Barry Diller Urges Settlements by Sept 1, Calls for 25% Pay Cuts for Execs and Stars

Barry Diller, the former head of ABC, Fox Broadcasting Company, and Paramount and current Chairman and Senior Executive, IAC and Expedia Group, made some thought-provoking suggestions during his appearance on CBS talk show “Face the Nation.” Diller’s comments are bound to stir up controversy.

One of his suggestions is that executives and the highest-paid actors should take a 25% pay cut as a good-faith measure to bridge the gap between the highly paid and those who earn less.

Diller also proposed a September 1 deadline for strike settlements. He warned that if a resolution is not reached by then, there will be a severe shortage of programs to watch next year. This could lead to a decline in subscriptions and a reduction in revenue for movie and television companies, ultimately resulting in a lack of new programs.

Diller dismissed fears about artificial intelligence, stating that they are overhyped. While AI can generate content that sounds like Shakespeare, it is not original. Diller believes that writers will be assisted by AI rather than replaced. He also mentioned that a group of publishers, whose names he did not disclose, are considering legal action to prevent AI from using their data without compensation.

Overall, Diller’s insights and suggestions have sparked a conversation about the future of the entertainment industry and the role of AI.
