‘New York, New York’ Musical to Conclude Broadway Run

New York, New York, the highly anticipated John Kander & Fred Ebb musical that took Broadway by storm last spring, will be taking its final bow on Sunday, July 30. After 33 preview performances and 110 regular shows, this musical extravaganza will come to a close. Despite opening to mixed reviews at the St. James Theatre on April 26, the production, featuring additional lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, was nominated for nine Tony Awards. Ultimately, it took home the trophy for Beowulf Boritt’s stunning scenic design.

But that’s not all! In recent weeks, attendance at the St. James has been hovering around 70% capacity, proving that audiences have been captivated by this incredible production. And while the curtains may be closing on New York, New York, discussions are already underway for a North American tour.

Producers Sonia Friedman and Tom Kirdahy expressed their gratitude to the talented performers, creative teams, and dedicated staff who brought this show to life. They also extended their thanks to the co-producing and investing community for their unwavering support. This production, loosely based on the 1977 Martin Scorsese film of the same name, boasts a large cast, including Colton Ryan and Anna Uzele in starring roles.

But wait, there’s more! Another Broadway production, Grey House, a thrilling play directed by Joe Mantello and featuring Laurie Metcalf, Tatiana Maslany, Paul Sparks, and Sophia Anne Caruso, will also be closing on July 30. Producers Tom Kirdahy and Robert Ahrens expressed their pride in bringing this captivating play to Broadway. They praised the brilliant direction of Joe Mantello and the extraordinary cast, crew, and creative team. They were especially thrilled that many audience members got to experience a Broadway show for the first time, as they are the future of theater.

As the curtains fall on these two incredible productions, we can’t help but reflect on the impact they have had on the Broadway community. But fear not, for the world of theater is ever-evolving, and we eagerly await the next wave of captivating performances to grace the stage.
