SAG-AFTRA Foundation president Courtney B. Vance had some exciting news to share with members about the organization’s Emergency Assistance Program. This program, funded by generous donations, provides much-needed support to actors and their families in urgent need. And on the same day, it was revealed that Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, made a seven-figure donation to the program. The foundation expressed their gratitude to The Rock on Twitter, acknowledging his extraordinary generosity and the impact it will have on thousands of actors and families in need. They also praised him for taking the lead and inspiring others to follow suit.
In addition to financial assistance, the Emergency Assistance Program also offers job training and development opportunities. These resources will continue to be available throughout the strike and beyond, ensuring that SAG-AFTRA members have the support they need to navigate these challenging times.
However, Vance also cautioned that the number of applicants for assistance is expected to be significant as the strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers enters its second week. The foundation is prioritizing members who are directly affected by the work stoppage and are unable to cover essential expenses like rent, food, and utilities. They are urging members who are able to manage their short-term living expenses to hold off on applying for assistance until they find themselves in a situation of urgent need.
It’s worth noting that the generous donation from Dwayne Johnson has not yet been reflected in the total amount raised on the SAG-AFTRA Foundation YouTube page. As of now, the counter stands at $16,310. This incredible contribution from The Rock will undoubtedly make a significant impact on the foundation’s efforts to support actors in need.
We are grateful to Dwayne Johnson for his incredible generosity and to all the donors who have contributed to the Emergency Assistance Program. Together, we can make a difference and provide vital support to our fellow actors and their families during these challenging times.
