HGTV Personality Tarek El Moussa Refutes Eviction Claims, Vows to Benefit North Hollywood Tenants

HGTV personality Tarek El Moussa is facing backlash over plans to evict tenants from a rent-controlled property in North Hollywood. After tenants Clare Letmon and JonPaul Rodriguez went public with their concerns on social media, El Moussa took to Instagram to defend himself. He clarified that he is one of the partners working on the redevelopment project, not the one responsible for evicting tenants. El Moussa emphasized his intentions to do good and urged everyone to focus on the positive and the facts.

He explained that the notices to the tenants were served by the current owner, not him or the partners of the project. The city of Los Angeles determined that a new structure should be constructed on the premises, leading to the request for the removal of the existing structures. El Moussa and his partners have tried to reach out to the remaining tenants for a discussion on move-out agreements. They have also sought assistance from the attorney representing the Hartsook tenants to facilitate a meeting between both parties. Their goal is to work with the tenants and offer them a great opportunity while improving the neighborhood.

Letmon and Rodriguez used social media to raise awareness about El Moussa’s plans to tear down the rent-controlled units. The entire property, owned by real estate developer Arthur Aslanian, includes old California bungalows and a 10-unit dingbat. Aslanian is currently in federal prison for a murder-for-hire plot and arson.

The rent in the apartments ranged from $850 to $1,650, and many residents have already left due to the poor conditions and Aslanian’s behavior. The remaining five tenants have filed a civil suit against Aslanian, and Letmon and Rodriguez have refused to pay rent in protest. They believe they have up to 12 months to find a new home according to the Ellis Law. However, they are determined to stay in the area, as the property holds historical significance for newcomers to Los Angeles in the film industry. They do not want to see it demolished.
