Exciting news for Broadway fans! The initial cast has just been announced for the highly anticipated production of Prayer for the French Republic. This captivating play, written by Joshua Harmon and directed by David Cromer (The Band’s Visit), will begin performances on Tuesday, December 19, with opening night set for Tuesday, January 9, at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
The talented cast includes Emmy-nominated Anthony Edwards (ER, Top Gun) and Aria Shahghasemi (Legacies). Joining them are several actors from the original Off Broadway production, including Betsy Aidem (Leopoldstadt), Lucille Lortel award winner Francis Benhamou, Ari Brand, Molly Ranson, and Nancy Robinette. But that’s not all! Manhattan Theatre Club’s world premiere of Prayer for the French Republic at New York City Center – Stage I was a huge success, winning the 2022 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play. This gripping story, set in 1944, follows a Jewish couple in Paris anxiously awaiting news of their missing family. Fast forward more than 70 years, and their great-grandchildren find themselves grappling with the same question: “Are we safe?”
