WGA & AMPTP Meeting Concludes With Mixed Results – Update

UPDATE, 4:36 PM: The highly anticipated meeting between the WGA and the AMPTP has come to a close. According to a reliable source, the results were mixed, but details have yet to emerge regarding future talks or potential proposals.

EXCLUSIVE, PREVIOUS 1:34 PM: Exciting news! Sources have informed FilmmakerFocus that the Writers Guild and AMPTP are resuming their discussions this afternoon, and this time, they are meeting in person. The WGA is expected to present their counterproposal to AMPTP’s offer from Friday.

We’ve heard that the WGA negotiating committee met on Monday to carefully analyze the studios’ offer. By the end of today, we should have a clearer understanding of the discussions, particularly regarding important topics such as viewership-based streaming residuals, pay raises, AI, and the preservation of the writers room.

So far, the tone of the talks has been encouraging, with both sides demonstrating a willingness to negotiate. One of the potential deal points being offered by the studios is ensuring that screenplay writers receive a revision fee upfront along with their main fee, before any revisions are made.

In a show of solidarity with the WGA, SAG-AFTRA has modified its interim agreement policy for indie projects, excluding those shot in the U.S. and covered by the WGA. However, the more than 200 productions that have already signed interim agreements with SAG-AFTRA will not be affected.

AMPTP and WGA representatives were unavailable for comment due to the news blackout. We would also like to acknowledge David Robb for his contribution to this report.
