Shohei Ohtani’s Pitching Career with L.A. Angels Ends This Season, Potential Permanently

Shohei Ohtani’s season has come to an unfortunate end due to a ligament tear in his right elbow, according to Los Angeles Angels general manager Perry Minasian. This injury may also mark the end of Ohtani’s time with the franchise, as he is set to become a free agent this winter. Despite the setback, Ohtani is expected to be highly sought-after by other MLB teams.

It’s worth noting that Ohtani has already undergone Tommy John surgery in 2018 for his UCL ligament. Whether he will require surgery for this new injury remains uncertain. However, even without his pitching abilities, Ohtani remains a valuable asset to the team. He currently leads the major leagues in home runs with an impressive 44, in addition to his 10 pitching victories. While his workload may be reduced as the Angels fall out of playoff contention, Ohtani is still expected to contribute as a designated hitter.

If this does mark the end of Ohtani’s season, it has undeniably been an impressive campaign for him. He boasts an impressive 1.069 OPS plate and has thrown 132 innings with a 3.14 ERA on the mound.
