Warner Bros Discovery is set to transform its Leavesden studio lot into the epicenter of DC Studios production, marking a major expansion for the UK location. Despite focusing on cost-cutting and reducing debt, the media company has been battling with rival Pinewood, which is also expanding to attract major U.S. shoots in the UK. Leavesden, known for hosting successful films like “Barbie,” will see 10 new sound stages and 400,000 square feet of production and support space added, increasing its production capacity by over 50%. The expansion is scheduled to begin in 2024 and conclude in 2027, making Leavesden a primary production hub for DC Studios. The BBC reported on this exciting plan, highlighting the exceptional facilities and soundstages at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Simon Robinson, COO of WBD Studios, expressed pride in growing productions and making Leavesden the main hub for DC Studios, contributing to the UK’s creative sector. The expansion team will consult with DC Studios co-chairmen and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran to incorporate their ideas into the new studio and production facilities. This expansion is expected to create 4,000 new jobs and contribute over £600 million ($737.6 million) annually to the UK’s film and television production industry. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, praised Warner Bros Discovery’s ambitious plan, recognizing its positive impact on the UK’s economy and global entertainment. Andreas Weisman also contributed to this report.
