IATSE is ramping up its efforts to negotiate the Area Standards Agreement, but the union is still working on finalizing its Basic Agreement. Thursday marked the end of the third week of discussions between IATSE and the AMPTP for a new three-year deal for the L.A. Locals. While the union had hoped to wrap up talks on the Basic Agreement by midnight, an agreement was not reached, and negotiations will continue.
In a memo sent to members, IATSE outlined the topics covered during the past week, including retirement and health benefits, artificial intelligence, wages and working conditions, subcontracting, as well as the Videotape Agreement and Side Letters.
As reported by FilmmakerFocus, job security for members remains a key issue between IATSE and the AMPTP. The union is determined to secure a strong agreement this year, following backlash from the previous contract approval by a narrow margin.
IATSE reiterated its commitment to members in a memo on Friday morning, stating that negotiations are ongoing to achieve improved wages, safer working conditions, consistent funding for benefit plans, AI and subcontracting protections, and enhancements to the Video Tape Agreement and Side Letters.
International President Matthew D. Loeb emphasized the union’s focus on achieving these goals and setting additional bargaining dates. IATSE also reminded members that all contracts are set to expire on July 31, with no plans to extend talks beyond that point. As of now, no strike authorization vote has been held by IATSE or any of the Basic Crafts.
